French Toast Roll Ups

  • Stores great in the refrigerator. Do not cover them or they might get soggy.
  • After storage the texture will still be amazing
  • You can serve them cold, the French toast roll-ups are almost better this way
  • You can play with plating designs when they are cold. Idea: Try cutting them into circles and plating them around the plate.  Just lay one of the French Toast Roll Up on a cutting board and slice it into a coins.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices Sliced Bread

Batter

  • 2 large Eggs
  • ⅓ cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon All-Spice

Filling Ingredients

  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Nutella Spread
  • 1 8 oz Package of Cream Cheese
  • Sliced Almonds

Garnish

  • Extra Sugar & Cinnamon for Dusting

How To Make French Toast Roll-Ups

First, cut off the crust on each piece of bread. I suggest using a serrated knife for smooth cuts.

Next using a rolling pin or large glass, flatten the bread.

Flattening a piece of bread for french toast roll-ups

Use either cream cheese or Nutella and add to both ends of the flattened piece of bread.

Fill with your favorite flavors. We used cream cheese, Nutella, strawberries, and almond slices.

Roll Up them up tightly. Use the cream cheese or Nutella to act as the glue.

Use a combination of Butter and Vegetable oil.

The vegetable oil is a natural oil and will not impart any flavor. Or use just butter, but be very careful of the temperature as butter wants to burn. This is the reason to add some vegetable oil, it will increase the smoke point raising the skillets manageable temperature.

When you're ready to cook, place each piece of French toast roll-ups into the batter of;

  • 2 large Eggs
  • ⅓ cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon All-Spice

For best results, you will want to batter each roll-up right before adding it to the skillet. Cook until golden brown and delicious, about 2 to 3 minutes.

As soon as the French Toast Roll-Ups come out of the skillet place them straight into a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

Faqs

Can I Make These Ahead Of Time?

Yes, there are two methods you can use.
1) Prepare the roll-ups, but do not cook them. Package them up for the refrigerator, but do not cover them or risk them becoming soggy
2) Prepare and cook all at once and store uncovered for one day in the refrigerator.

Can I Freeze French Toast Roll-Ups

Yes, they freeze excellently. Store them up to 1 month

Ingredients

  • Sliced Bread 8 slices

Batter

  • Eggs 2 large
  • Sugar ⅓ cup
  • Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
  • Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon
  • Salt ¼ teaspoon
  • Brown Sugar 1 Tablespoon
  • All-Spice ⅛ teaspoon

Filling Ingredients

  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Nutella Spread
  • Package of Cream Cheese 1 8 oz
  • Sliced Almonds

Garnish

  • Extra Sugar & Cinnamon for Dusting

Instructions

Preparing The Bread And Filling

  • Cut off the crust.
Using a rolling pin or large glass, flatten all pieces of bread. Make sure to do a good job on the corners.
  • Add a small amount of cream cheese or Nutella on both sides of the bread, this will act as the glue after rolling it up.
Add cream cheese or nutella to both ends of the flattened bread
  • Two Filling Options:
    1) Cream cheese with strawberries and sliced almonds
    2) Nutella with strawberries, with or without almonds
Adding sliced almonds and strawberries to the flattened piece of bread
  • Next, roll up the bread into a log. Get a good seal. If you can add more cream cheese or Nutella to create a good seal.
Rolling the flattened filled bread into a log
  • At this point, you could pack everything up and do the cooking at a later date and time. When storing in the refrigerator, be sure to NOT cover as it will cause them to become soggy.
Or freeze them. Place them into an airtight container. Good for one month.

Cooking

  • In a bowl, add eggs and whip them adding a small amount of air. Then add cinnamon, vanilla, salt, all-spice, brown sugar, sugar and combine.
For an adult treat, add the liqueur Grand Marnier. Has alcohol, not kid-friendly.
    One to two Tablespoons
  • In a large skillet add butter and melt.
  • Cook the prepped pieces of bread in batches. Add the bread to the seasoned egg mixture right before cooking them.
If you soak the French toast roll-ups too long they will become unmanageable with an odd texture.
Cook until golden brown and delicious.

Garnish Finishing

  • In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar for dusting. Two to three tbsps of cinnamon to one cup of sugar. Could add more cinnamon 🙂
  • Topping with whip cream never hurts.

At what point do you incorporate the egg mixture? That part's missing.
