  • Hard Boiled Eggs In Instant Pot

The texture of hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot shouldn't be compared to the texture of eggs prepared in the conventional manner, notably the texture of the yolk. There is a broad spectrum of contrasting opinions concerning the characteristics that should be present in the perfect egg. I have experimented with basically every technique that may be suggested.

The objective is to make perfectly cooked eggs in the Instant Pot pressure cooker. The best part the eggs are easy to peel.

Something I find great about this method is that it is very consistent. I make hard-boiled eggs this way now. Why mess with perfection?

Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs 5-5-5 Method

  • Set the Instant Pot timer for 5 minutes on "High Pressure."
  • Once the timer goes off, do nothing for an additional 5 minutes (Instant Pot natural release).
  • For the last 5 minutes, place the pressure-cooked hard-boiled eggs in an ice bath to shock the eggs to stop the cooking process.

How To Make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

First, ensure the Instant Pot plastic O'ring is inserted into the lid.

Instant pot safety inserting the plastic sealing o ring into the lid

Using the Instant Pot metal wire rack insert, place the large eggs on top of the wire rack. I suggest lining the eggs up in uniform. You will be able to fit more this way, promoting even cooking.

You can add more on top if you want to cook in a large batch. Adding more than 12 fresh eggs increases the cooking time to 6 minutes.

Add 1 cup of water to the Instant Pot, then secure the lid. Make sure the exhaust valve is set to "Sealing."

Instant Pot Settings

  • Mode: Pressure Cook
  • Temperature: "Normal"
  • Pressure setting: "High Pressure
  • Timer: 5 Minutes
Settings for the instant pot hard boiled eggs

Pressure Cooker Eggs:

  • The timer is set for 5 minutes.
  • The Instant Pot will turn ON and begin to pressurize. This takes a short few minutes.
  • Then a countdown timer will appear on the control panel and count down from 5 minutes.
  • After the 5 minutes are up, the Instant Pot will make a series of beeps.
  • You need to do nothing at this point except wait an additional 5 minutes. (This process is called "Natural Pressure Release.")

A new timer will appear after the beeps. This timer will start to count up from 0 to 5 minutes.

The next step will be to do a "Quick Release" of the remaining pressure. To do this, slide the exhaust valve from 'Sealing" to "Venting." Steam will begin to be released. The steam will take about 30 seconds to finish.

The Instant Pot will be safe to open once the pressure pin on the top of the IP lid drops back into the lid.

Instant pot pressure pin on the lid has fallen back into the lid meaning it is now safe to open the lid

When the Instant Pot pressure pin on the lid has fallen back into the lid, this means it is now safe to open the lid.

Remove the hard-boiled eggs immediately and place them in a bowl with ice and water. Shock the eggs for 5 minutes at a minimum.

At this point, the Instant Pot 5-5-5 method has been completed.

A quick recap of the steps:

  1. Cook the eggs for 5 minutes.
  2. Use natural pressure, release for 5 minutes, then perform a quick release to let all the pressure out.
  3. Shock the eggs for 5 minutes.

How To Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Do you dislike peeling hard-boiled eggs? Having to pick at small pieces of the eggshell, taking forever to remove the shell?

With pressure-cooker eggs, you can easily peel eggs in seconds.

  1. Crack the egg around its equator, all the way around.
  2. With cold running water, using both hands, lightly twist the eggshell to loosen, moving in opposite directions.
  3. The shell will easily peel away.

FAQ's

Why Are Eggshells White or Brown?

Eggshell color is dependent on the egg's breed.

Does The Egg Yolk Color Represent Nutrition Value?

Carotenoids are natural pigments that may be found in a variety of plants. They are responsible for giving egg yolks their characteristic yellow hue.

Why Are Eggs Rated Differently?

Chicken egg sizes are determined by weight, not volume; egg size categories vary by country.

How Long Do Hard Boiled Eggs Last?

Store the hard-boiled eggs in the refrigerator, lasting for 7 days. The key is to not peel the eggs using the shell as a freshness insurance policy. Place the hard boil eggs into water with an air-tight container.

How To Pressure Cook Soft-Boiled Eggs

If you are using an Instant Pot that is 8 quarts in capacity, you should cook at high pressure for three minutes before performing a rapid pressure release, followed by 5 minutes in an ice water bath.

Can you freeze hard-boiled eggs?

Yes, you can freeze hard-boiled eggs. Keep them in a covered container so they don't absorb strange smells from the fridge. And be sure to use them within three months.

Here are some helpful tips for freezing eggs:
- Eggs should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking. If they are not, bacteria can form and make you sick.
- Hard-boiled eggs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Eggs can be frozen for up to nine months.
