Ingredients

  • 6 large Eggs Add up to dozen eggs, if adding more than 12 eggs increase the cook timer to 6 minutes

Instructions

  • Begin by placing the wire rack into the bottom of the IP. Then add the eggs on the wire rack spacing each egg evenly apart from the other.

Instant Pot 5-5-5 Method

  • An easy way to remember this technique is using the statement, Instant Pot Egg 5-5-5 method."
Set the Instant Pot timer for 5 minutes on "High Pressure."
Once the timer goes off, do nothing for an additional 5 minutes
For the last 5 minutes, place the cooked Instant Pot hard-boiled eggs in an ice bath to shock and stop the cooking process.
  • Safely first, make sure the plastic O'ring is inserted into the lid. Using the Instant Pot metal wire rack, place the eggs on top of the wire rack. I suggest lining the eggs up in uniform. You will be able to fit more this way and promotes even cooking.
You can add more eggs on top if you want to cook the hard boiled eggs in a large batch. If adding more than 12 eggs, increase the cooking time to 6 minutes.
Using the Instant Pot metal wire rack place the eggs on top
  • Add 1 ½ cups of water to the Instant Pot, then secure the lid. Make sure the exhaust valve is on "Sealing."
Add one and half cup of water to Instant Pot
  • Settings:
    Mode: Pressure Cook
    Temperature: "Normal"
    Pressure setting: "High Pressure
    Timer: 5 Minutes
Settings for the Instant Pot hard boiled eggs
  • The Instant Pot will turn ON and begin to pressurize. This takes a short few minutes. Then a countdown timer will appear and count down from 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes are up, the Instant Pot will make a series of beeps. You need to do nothing at this point except wait an additional 5 minutes.
This process is called "Natural Pressure Release."
A new timer will appear after the beeps. This timer will start to count up from 0 to 5 minutes.
  • The next step will be to do a "Quick Release" of the remaining pressure. To do this, slide the exhaust valve from 'Sealing" to "Venting". Steam will begin to be released. The steam will take about 30 seconds to finish.
The Instant Pot will be safe to open once the pressure pin on the top of the IP lid drops back into the lid.
Instant Pot pressure pin on the lid has fallen back into the lid meaning it is now safe to open the lid
  • Instant Pot pressure pin on the lid has fallen back into the lid meaning it is now safe to open the lid.
Remove the hard boiled eggs immediately and place them into a bowl with ice and water. Shock the eggs for 5 minutes at a minimum.
At this point, the Instant Pot 5-5-5 method has been completed.
