There are some interesting facts about National Calzone day

  • For example, did you know that the word 'calzone' means trousers or stockings? This is because a calzone is a folded pizza that can be eaten while walking or standing.
  • Calzones also originated in Naples, Italy, in the 18th century.
  • The word 'calzone' was first documented in 1933 to describe a pizza turned inside out!

What is a Calzone?

A calzone is essentially a folded pizza. It has all the same ingredients as a regular pizza, but they are all folded up inside the dough instead of being spread out on top. This makes the calzone easier to eat because it stays warmer than a regular pizza and doesn’t drip sauce all over your face and hands.

The History of National Calzone Day:

On October 25th, 2016, Minsky’s Pizza founded National Calzone day in honor of its 40th Anniversary. They wanted to commemorate their delight in delectable handmade calzones and give them the appreciation they deserved. Since then, National Calzone day has been celebrated every year on November 1st. It’s a day when everyone can come together and enjoy this mouth-watering Italian folded pizza!

How to Celebrate National Calzone Day

The best way to celebrate National Calzone Day is, of course, by eating calzones! Head to your favorite Italian restaurant or pizzeria and order a calzone for yourself. If you’re feeling adventurous, try making your own calzone at home. You can stuff it with whatever you like – the possibilities are endless! Just make sure to enjoy your calzone on November 1st to fully partake in the festivities.

National Calzone Day is the perfect opportunity to try out a new filling or topping combination. So get creative and have fun with it! Buon appetite!

Are calzone dough and pizza dough the same?

Pizza dough and calzone dough are very similar. The main difference is that calzone dough is usually a bit thicker and has more cheese and filling inside. That said, you can use store-bought pizza dough for calzones if you want an easy shortcut. Simply roll out the dough, add your desired filling, and bake as directed. The results will be delicious!
